People often ask me about my elevator pitch, and it typically comes as a surprise when I say, “I don’t have one.” I’m a reverse mortgage planner, and reverse mortgages are something that can carry some stigma. Instead, I like to say that I spend time with people and present options that will help them change their lives. Are you ready to hear some options? Are you ready to make a change? That’s what I do. Let’s chat, I’m listening.

I have a 26-year background working in the ER and in the ICU. Before I was a loan officer, I saw people get sick, and I saw them get better. But something I noticed is that, when they got better, they had no money to fix up their homes. They would have to give up their houses and move in with their families in order to pay their medical bills. That experience is something that inspires what I do now. Medically, you’re better. I can help with what comes next.

Let me tell you a story. I once worked with an engineer. His home was worth $400,000. We did a line of credit. By the time he’s in his 80s, he’ll have access to over at least $1.1 million. This money has no tax consequences, no spending limitations; it can’t be closed down by the bank if the market is bad. It’s guaranteed. That’s huge. People say to me, “Michele, that can’t be right. That’s too good to be true.” Well, it’s true.

I’m a people person. For me, the hardest thing about the COVID-19 pandemic has been the minimization of face-to-face socialization. Most loan officers do things virtually regardless, but I’m a little different. I spend a lot of time – I’ll travel to get to you, I’ll work with your schedule, I’ll take as long as it takes to create your perfect plan. I love my job because I get to talk to people, I get to meet new people, I get to hear people tell me I’ve changed their lives. So, let’s talk. How can I change your life?

My daughter is one of the biggest drives behind everything I do. I started buying properties in the mid-90s; I bought and sold 50 houses in 10 years. I put her through Independent schooling and college, and now she has her master’s degree. She’s an adult now, but she’s still a huge part of why I do what I do. I know as much as anyone that family matters, and that every family has different needs. So many loan officers have one or two programs that they use and they recycle the same plans. I step outside of that box. I’ll create a plan for you that’s just for you.

Reverse mortgages can be hard to talk about. People hear the words and they shut down, they say “No, nope, don’t want it, don’t need it.” It’s the exact words, every time. There’s no better feeling than turning that “no” into a “yes.” Once I present options, people realize the benefits that a reverse mortgage can give and they get so excited.
